Regina Caeli (Queen of Heaven)
Queen of Heaven, rejoice, alleluia;
for He whom you did merit to bear, alleluia;
has risen as He said, alleluia.
Pray for us to God, alleluia.
V. Rejoice and be glad, O Virgin Mary, alleluia;
R. For the Lord has truly risen, alleluia.
Let us pray:
O God, who by the resurrection of Your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, did vouchsafe to make glad the world, grant us, we beseech You, that through His Mother, the Virgin Mary, we may obtain the joys of everlasting life. Through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.
About the Regina Caeli
The Regina Caeli is the Eastertide counterpart to the Angelus, used from Easter Sunday through Pentecost. Its origin lies in medieval monastic practice, where joyful antiphons to Mary marked the Church’s celebration of Christ’s Resurrection. Its opening words, “Queen of Heaven, rejoice,” encapsulate the triumph of life over death and call the faithful to share in the Easter joy.
By praying the Regina Caeli, Catholics unite themselves to the risen Christ and Mary’s rejoicing heart, drawing down the graces of the Resurrection. Popes and councils have long encouraged its recitation as a source of comfort, spiritual consolation, and a reminder that the paschal mystery permeates every aspect of Christian life during the Easter season.
