How to Make the Sign of the Cross
- Forehead: Touch your forehead and say silently or aloud: “In the name of the Father…”
- Chest: Touch your chest and say: “…and of the Son…”
- Shoulders: Touch your left shoulder, then your right shoulder, and say: “…and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.”
About the Sign of the Cross
The Sign of the Cross is a brief ritual gesture in many Christian traditions—especially Catholic, Orthodox, and some Anglican and Lutheran churches—invoking the Holy Trinity. By touching the forehead, chest, and then each shoulder (left to right), the believer silently professes “We bless ourselves in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.” It both recalls Christ’s sacrifice on the cross and asks for God’s protection, mercy, and presence throughout one’s day.
